I LOVED the fact that this game was unrealistic and had its own audience. It was a welcome break from the lengthy tasks set by FM series. This game started out simple and it worked. I think you have both missed the point of this game, It's not intended as a real life football simulator, it was aimed a players who don't want to spend there entire LIFE, playing games like football manager.
Glory is a lifelong resource, not something that changes based on your current job so managing it over the long term is far more important than just spending it all for your current contract, getting your reputation boost and moving on. When you play the base game or Football Stars, you are stuck with one club forever. Otherwise it would just encourage players to boost their lineup ASAP and get immediate gains, without worrying about the potential long term growth of a club and future results (which impacts contract decisions).
Given that coach skills are an important part of Manager's Journey, you're ultimately required to unlock abilities for your coach to impact player training, and glory no longer has a long term benefit for the player unless they stick with a club (meaning you're more likely to spend it all for instant gains), it made sense to remove it from Manager's Journey. Manager's Journey was not only an opportunity to add new content, it was also an opportunity to balance existing content in a way that makes sense otherwise you would have those issues carrying over into the new scenarios and bog things down as a result.
You don't suddenly inspire someone to fast track a skill in an instant by spending a ton of influence at once you encourage them to work harder and shave off the overall training time. It was unrealistic and ultimately unbalanced.
